Latinos and Blacks in Florida Are Being Left Behind in the COVID-19 Vaccine Rollout

In the rise of the new coronavirus variants, Latinos and Blacks are reportedly getting a smaller share of the COVID-19 vaccines in some areas of the country like Florida. Thus, government officials need to keep a close eye on the race of COVID-19 vaccines among their constituents. NBC News reported that Latino and Black leaders raised alarms after Florida has started the rollout of COVID-19 vaccines. But the first doses are mostly finding their way into the arms of mostly white senior citizens, making their communities left behind.  Related article:  COVID-19 Vaccine Rollout in Florida Some numbers serve as proof or support the allegations. A political science professor from the University of Central Florida, Aubrey Jewett, shared with Yahoo! Blacks, Hispanics shortchanged on vaccine

Corky Siemaszko March 1, 2021, 3:24 PM Not long after Florida began its rollout of the coronavirus vaccines, Black leaders and others began raising alarms that the first doses were finding their way into the arms of mostly white senior citizens who supported Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis, while their hard-hit communities were left in the cold. Now some numbers appear to support those suspicions. Of the 34 states that shared vaccination data by race and ethnicity, Florida ranks near the bottom in the rate at which Black residents have been inoculated even as the community has suffered a disproportionate share of Covid-19 deaths, concluded Aubrey Jewett, a political science professor at the University of Central Florida.

In post-Trump era, a GOP battle of ideas – and test of Trump s clout

Feelings remain raw on both sides of a Republican civil war that has pitted pro-Trump party activists against establishment Republicans.  For now, the battle for the soul of the GOP seems over, and former President Donald Trump has won. He controls the national party and has acolytes in powerful positions all over the country – with some, like Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, in strong position to compete for the Republican presidential nomination in 2024 if Mr. Trump himself doesn’t.  Why We Wrote This That Donald Trump is the dominant force in the GOP is beyond dispute. But as Republicans start looking ahead to the next election cycle, his hold may not be as strong – or absolute – as it appears.
