PATERSON A 75-year-old woman running errands on a summer afternoon became Paterson’s 100th shooting victim of 2021 when she was hit by what police say was a stray bullet on Thursday.
The woman, whose name has not been made public, suffered a non-life-threatening wound when she was hit by a bullet amid a burst of gunfire on 10th Avenue, near East 27th Street, just before 3 p.m., authorities said.
The incident reflects a growing problem: victims who are not targets and are hurt when a shooter using a high-capacity gun triggers a flurry of shots, according to police. Shooters targeting someone amid a group of people seemingly have become less and less concerned about wounding bystanders, law enforcement sources said.
