BTV becomes bigger, better

WATERLOO — The “B” in BTV stands for “Baron,” but this school year, it also could represent “better” and “bigger.” DeKalb High School’s television channel now offers more programming, and it is reaching far more viewers through Auburn Essential Services. BTV programs now are available to all internet users, free of charge, at auburnessentialservices.net through the Your Community Network platform. It also may be viewed by AES video subscribers on Channels 10 and 22. Until last fall, “AES had a platform, but nothing to put on it,” and the school had programming, but needed a place to show it, said Jed Freels, instructor for the BTV class at DeKalb High School.

Community supported We Love Auburn Month

To the editor: Auburn Main Street (AMS) and the Downtown Auburn Business Association (DABA) are extending a huge thank you to our community members for the support of our sixth annual “We Love Auburn Month.” We are excited to report we had a record number of participants this year. We are thankful for our community really coming together during the month of February and continuing the momentum of celebrating Auburn. Such success could not have been done without the generous annual sponsorship we received from Beacon Credit Union, DeKalb Visitors Bureau, Tempus Technologies, City of Auburn, Ambassador Enterprises, Auburn Hardwood Moldings and Credent Wealth Management.

Leaders lay out visions for 2021

Second of two parts Leaders of Garrett, Hamilton and Waterloo described their goals for 2021 this week for the DeKalb Chamber Partnership’s video conference, “DeKalb Vision 2021: Cities and Towns.” Garrett Mayor Todd Fiandt noted that his city gained approximately 400 people in the past decade to reach a population of 6,651 in the 2020 census. The city also added 12 new businesses last year. To promote more growth, the city is working to extend water lines to new residential areas on its south side and build sewer and water mains to property in its industrial park. Fiber-optic broadband from Auburn Essential Services is being installed to residential areas, starting in newer south-side neighborhoods.
