WATERLOO — The “B” in BTV stands for “Baron,” but this school year, it also could represent “better” and “bigger.” DeKalb High School’s television channel now offers more programming, and it is reaching far more viewers through Auburn Essential Services. BTV programs now are available to all internet users, free of charge, at auburnessentialservices.net through the Your Community Network platform. It also may be viewed by AES video subscribers on Channels 10 and 22. Until last fall, “AES had a platform, but nothing to put on it,” and the school had programming, but needed a place to show it, said Jed Freels, instructor for the BTV class at DeKalb High School.

Maritime Shorts Disabled boat  CASTINE  On Dec. 18, Maine Maritime Academy received a call from the U.S. Coast Guard requesting assistance for the F/V Eastern Star, which was reportedly disabled off Cape Rosier in Penobscot Bay.  MMA employees Captains Dana Willis, Zander Parker and Kelly Gunthorpe prepared MMA’s Addy Rae, a former Coast Guard 41-foot utility boat, and headed out around noon to locate and assist the vessel.  The team located Eastern Star drifting toward Western Island. Prior to their arrival, several efforts to anchor and restart the engine were unsuccessful. As Addy Rae approached, Eastern Star regained power and proceeded slowly through rough waters toward Bucks Harbor. The crew aboard Addy Rae remained with the vessel until it was safely moored. They returned to Castine just before sunset.

Thu, 12/31/2020 - 11:00pm CASTINE On Friday, December 18, Maine Maritime Academy received a call from the U.S. Coast Guard requesting assistance for FV Eastern Star, a disabled vessel off of Cape Rosier in Penobscot Bay.   MMA employees Captain Dana Willis, Captain Zander Parker, and Captain Kelly Gunthorpe answered the call quickly. They prepared MMA’s Addy Rae, a former Coast Guard 41’ UTB, gathered a pump, clothing, and other emergency supplies and headed out around noon to locate and assist the vessel.     The team located Eastern Star drifting towards Western Island; prior to their arrival, several efforts to anchor and restart the engine were unsuccessful.
