With crumbled walls barely visible beyond a tangle of weeds, time has not been kind to the Whitfield Tabernacle.
Responsible to: Regional Director
Responsible for: directing and controlling the work of the Senior Management Team and liaising productively and positively with other departments, staff, donors and all stakeholders to facilitate the achievement of Syria Relief’s vision, mission and values.
Description of the Role:
Country Director (CD) for our Syria Response operations in Iraq and North Syria (NS) will build on the strengths and opportunities of the programme to define strategic direction, creatively manage the team, and build excellent relationships with partners, donors and authorities. You will have experience of working and leading teams in unstable and insecure environments, excellent knowledge of regional politics and development trends, and a strong track record in both resource mobilization and improving programme quality. You will demonstrate experience of building programmes with a focus on accountability, and evidence of connecting programmes to wider advocacy agenda
£5m improvement scheme begins at Abney Park Cemetery

A £5m project to improve Abney Park Cemetery in Stoke Newington ,which will bring its chapel back into use and create a new café at its main entrance has begun.
The work, £4.4m of which is funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund and The National Lottery Community Fund, will also see a new accessible entrance created on Stoke Newington Church Street.
Hackney Council will contribute an additional £710,000 to the National Lottery funding, which will bring total investment to over £5m. Abney Park Trust Charity organisation will also contribute to the improvement project through its volunteers and local donations
We’re pleased to support the urgent repairs to the north-west turret of the house to ensure that this remarkable property can be enjoyed by visitors in the future.”
This latest funding continues an extensive programme of repair and renovation that started in the mid-20th century, when a leaking roof was found to be causing deterioration of historic room interiors.

To date, £5million has been invested in these essential ongoing works, of which £1million has been grant funded by Historic England.
