The area of the Highway affected is between Dean river PI and Bittner Road, or 22 kilometres east of Anahim Lake to 32 kilometres west of Tatla Lake. Drive BC says to expect delays on this road due to pilot cars. Drive BC also says this road could be closed again with little notice. Drive BC still has Highway 20 west of Anahim Lake between Rainbow Range Trailhead and Elsey Road listed as closed at this time. Drive BC says there is no detour or estimated time of opening available for this stretch of highway.

The order from the Cariboo Regional District covers roughly 1,000 properties south of 100 Mile House and 482 properties in the Canim Lake area, with residents warned of “immediate danger” from wildfires. The District of 100 Mile House, roughly 200 kilometres north of Kamloops, has been placed under an evacuation alert, which means residents have been told they may have to leave their homes with little notice.

Highway 20 Closed in both directions

CFNR Network Jul 14, 2021 | 5:03 PM Highway 20 has been closed in both directions because of a forest fire between the Rainbow Range Trailhead and Elsey Road for 32.6 km, and it’s between 38 to six km west of Anahim Lake. DriveBC noted that the road is closed and that there is no detour available. The fire in question that is responsible for the closure is the Hotnarko Creek fire, which is considered a wildfire of note. This fire has grown to around 1,100 hectares since it was initially discovered on July 3. The BC Wildfire Service’s latest update from yesterday morning (July 13) also noted there was increased activity experienced on the site of this wildfire on Monday.
