NEW DELHI: Equity indices scaled new highs on Friday as investors shifted their focus to the third-quarter earnings season. The benchmark BSE sensex soared 689 points or 1.43 per cent to hit record closing of 48,783; while the broader NSE Nifty moved 210 points or 1.48 per cent to settle at fresh peak of 14,347.
Top gainers in the BSE pack included Tech Mahindra, Maruti Suzuki, Infosys, UltraTech Cement, Mahindra & Mahindra, PowerGrid, HCL Tech, Sun Pharma and Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) with their stocks rising as much as 5.86 per cent. TCS is scheduled to announce its Q3 results later in the day.

BENGALURU Indian IT services and financial stocks helped the blue-chip Nifty scale a record high on Friday, as investors turned their focus to the third-quarter earnings season with IT major Tata Consultancy Services reporting its results later in the day.
By 0454 GMT, the NSE Nifty 50 advanced 0.91% to 14,266.00 and the benchmark S&P BSE Sensex added 0.82% to 48,492.18, with both indexes on track to close out the first full week of the new year higher.
