A former Marine from Jacksonville, N.C., was sentenced last week to 30 years in prison for the sex trafficking of hundreds of women over nearly two decades.
Jesse Gabriel Marks, 38, pleaded guilty last September to charges of sex trafficking by force, fraud or coercion, the U.S. Attorney s Office for the Eastern District of North Carolina said in a May 7 release.
He was sentenced May 7 to 360 months in prison and must pay $249,700 in restitution to several victims, the release states.
On the morning of Wednesday, May 5, Jacksonville resident Jim Dietrich was at home with his 6-year-old son when his son decided to walk outside into the backyard to play.
A few moments later, Dietrich said he heard gunshots coming from his next-door neighbor s house, one of which he says went through his privacy fence into his backyard. He quickly got his son into the house and called 9-1-1.
Deputies with the Onslow County Sheriff s Office arrived on the scene, located at 193 Liberty Park Road, and after an initial investigation, deputies arrested Dietrich s neighbor.
Brandon Allan Harris, 34, was charged with one count of discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a dwelling, and misdemeanor injury to personal property. Deputies say he was placed under a $1,000 bond and his next court date is scheduled for July 14 in Onslow County District Court.
