WATCH NOW: 10-member team runs downtown for 22 hours to raise awareness of high veteran suicide rate

Members of the downtown Lynchburg community are pretty used to seeing veterans and patriots every Friday for the Support Our Troops rallies, but something different took place on those steps Tuesday and Wednesday. A group of men and women wearing 22-pound flak vests with armor plates ran for 22 hours straight to honor the lives of the 22 veterans who commit suicide in the United States each day. The Shepherd’s Men is a 10-member team of active duty, medically retired and honorably discharged servicemen and civilian patriots dedicated to raising money and awareness for the Atlanta-based Shepherd Center’s SHARE Military Initiative.

May 10, 2021 SHERIDAN The Auxiliary for the Sheridan Veterans of Foreign Wars 6390 will hold a meeting Monday at 6:30 p.m., in the dining room of the post located at 2556 Route 20. Installation of officers for the upcoming year will be presided over by past president, Romaine Hohenstein. Refreshments will be served following the meeting and ceremony. All members are encouraged to attend. Collection of items for donation to the VA hospital continues through the middle of this month and can be dropped off at the post or the home of president Bigler. Coupons for Support Our Troops are always welcomed and are sent in regularly.

Troopon Campaign Raises Over $100k Worth Since November – WLDS

The Jacksonville Sunrise Rotary Club announced today that the Troopon campaign of providing manufacturer’s coupons to American service personnel has now collected over $100,000 worth of coupons. The club’s Troopon project coordinator, Jane Becker, informed the club at its April 27 meeting that coupons with a total redemption value of $112,031.38 have been collected since the campaign began last November. The program collects manufacturer’s coupons in drop-off boxes around the Jacksonville area, which are sorted by type, and then shipped to the “Support Our Troops” national non-profit organization in Daytona, Florida for distribution.
