Car seat safety on the agenda for Road Safety Forum June 1, 2021 at 3:23 pm Orkney’s Road Safety Forum is urging anyone who drives with children to take advantage of free online car seat checks with a “good egg’” expert this Child Safety Week, June 7-13. Orkney’s Road Safety Forum, which includes partners such as Orkney Islands Council, NHS Orkney, Police Scotland, Scottish Fire and Rescue, and Scottish Ambulance Service, has helped arrange and publicise “Good Egg” car seat safety clinics in the county since 2009. Forum chairman, Councillor Andrew Drever said: “Past clinics in Orkney have shown us well over half of child car seats checked were not being used correctly. The good news is that many issues spotted were minor and easily rectifiable such as incorrect harness or head-rest height, or having the carry handle in the wrong position.

Sign Up Orkney’s drugs dog has helped police detect and seize substances with an estimated street value of almost £90,000 in the islands in the past year. Zoe and her handler assisted with busts involving £72,236 of cannabis, £9,430 of cocaine, tablet forms worth £6,532 and £610 of heroin between April 1 last year and March 31 this year.

A DRUG dog with an expert nose for sniffing out illegal substances helped police on Orkney seize almost £90,000 worth of drugs last year. During the period 1st April 2020 to 31st March 2021, Orkney Drugs Dog Zoe assisted Police Scotland in the detection and seizure of substantial quantities of illegal drugs - with an estimated street value of almost £90,000. The drugs and values detected in Orkney consisted of heroin valuing £610, £72,236 of cannabis, £9,430 of cocaine and tablets forms at £6,532. Zoe, managed by her expert handler, conducts regular searches at the post office, the air and ferry ports and through her assistance with police warrant searches.
