Kímmapiiyipitssini: The Meaning of Empathy, have emerged as award-winners at this year’s Hot Docs Festival.
The Hot Docs Awards Presentation, held virtually May 7, saw 11 awards and CA$67,000 in cash and prizes presented to Canadian and international filmmakers.
Zo reken (pictured), directed and produced by Licha, won the best Canadian feature documentary award, which includes a $10,000 cash prize.
The film sees humanitarian aid workers in Port-au-Prince share candid thoughts about the grim realities of colonialism, international aid and “11 years of unkept promises.”

Svetlana Rodina and Laurent Stoop’s “Ostrov Lost Island” and Emanuel Licha’s “Zo Reken” took the top Hot Docs jury awards at a special online ceremony webcast from Toronto Friday night.
Eleven awards and $67,000 CAD ($55,200) in cash and prizes were presented to emerging and established Canadian and international filmmakers.

A Greene County man who police say beat and gave a date-rape drug to a toddler pleaded guilty Tuesday to assault and child endangerment charges.
Cory Andrew Kuntz, 27, of Waynesburg was charged in 2016 after the mother of a Derry Township child reported her 2-year-old son was injured while in the care of Kuntz, her part-time, live-in boyfriend.
According to court records, police said the child was treated at Excela Health Latrobe Hospital and later was transferred to UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh to undergo tests after numerous bruises were discovered on his head, torso, back, arms and legs.
