Syngenta has also requested federal authorities for approval to use even more of these pesticides than is legally permitted - up to 400 times more than is currently permitted. Bayer s appeal to reverse a lower EU court s decision to uphold the injunction was rejected by the European Court of Justice on Thursday. Ban on Major Insecticide Producers The decision applies to three active ingredients: Bayer CropScience s imidacloprid, Takeda Chemical Industries, and Bayer CropScience s clothianidin, and Syngenta s thiamethoxam. A Bayer spokesperson expressed disappointment with the decision but insisted that the drugs were safe and that they were already being used in other regions with adequate risk reduction mechanisms in place.

(Photo : Slon dot pics) The Three Active Substances  The ruling covers three active substances - clothianidin that was developed by Takeda Chemical Industries and Bayer CropScience, and also Syngenta s thiamethoxam, imidacloprid that was developed by Bayer CropScience. Bayer s spokesperson said it was discontented by the decision and stood by the protection of the products, which other regions will continue to use with the application of adequate risk mitigation measures.

A A Reset Following an appeal by the agrochemical company Bayer, the European Union’s highest court has now confirmed a partial ban on three neonicotinoid pesticides linked to harming bees, preventing their use on certain crops. The EU’s Commission had banned the pesticides in 2018 but this couldn’t be enforced due to Bayer’s appeal until now. They have come under fire for contributing to the decline of bees by disrupting their sense of orientation, memory, and mode of reproduction.
