Prosecutors allege at least 2 gang members combined to kill 3 people in 5 years in Emerald Hills

SAN DIEGO  An alleged gang member accused in a pair of killings over the past 13 months in Emerald Hills pleaded not guilty Friday to two counts of murder and other felony charges. A co-defendant in the case, who is not in custody and has not been formally charged, is also suspected in taking part in the slaying last year as well as committing a 2016 murder at the same Emerald Hills park where a victim was gunned down last month, according to prosecutors. San Diego police arrested 21-year-old Kenneth Earl Brooks last week on suspicion that he and an accomplice, 23-year-old Tahjee Ector, shot and killed Arif Abdalla on May 31, 2020. A third man is also named in a criminal complaint as allegedly taking part in the slaying, though he’s not named as a co-defendant in the case.

Arrest made in two deadly shootings in Emerald Hills Paul Anderegg/KGTV and last updated 2021-05-27 18:01:01-04 SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A 21-year-old alleged gang member was behind bars Thursday on suspicion of fatally shooting a man and woman in Emerald Hills over the course of the last 12 months. Detectives arrested Kenneth Earl Brooks of San Diego on Wednesday in connection with the slayings of Tamara Shellum two weeks ago and Arif Abdalla last year in the suburban enclave east of Interstate 805 and south of state Route 94, according to San Diego police. Shellum, 44, was found dead shortly before 10 a.m. May 9 in a parked car with bullet holes in its windshield on Bethune Court, alongside Emerald Hills Park.
