Tenants in Northeast Austin describe unlivable conditions two months after Texas freeze Sarah Asch, Austin American-Statesman
Members of the Mueller Flats Tenants Association and other tenants groups from nearby apartment complexes rallied Saturday morning to demand their management companies deal with damages from the winter storms that have gone unaddressed since February.
David Rojas, who described himself as the unofficial head of the Mueller Flats group, said his apartment flooded during the winter freeze. Rojas had standing water in his unit that went unaddressed for so long that mold is growing in his closet.
“We started to talk to each other and understand that this was a complexwide problem,” Rojas said. “Management expects full rent with no concessions, with no other place to live. It’s just pay us and that’s it.”
