This is the weekend for the Olmsted County Sheriff s Office puts on the Rochester Polar Plunge for Special Olympics.and it certainly is cold enough for it this winter. So, why isn t it happening? Did they chicken out?
Nope.just postponed it.
The 20th Annual Polar Plunge is set for March 20, 2021. According to the Sheriff s Office,
With COVID-19 challenges being considered the Plunge committee led by local law enforcement, Special Olympics Minnesota and the Rochester Flyers Special Olympics team.Limits will be placed on how many plungers will jump, belly flop, swan dive and cannonball into the cool waters of Foster Arend lake.

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KFVS) - The 15th Annual Polar Plunge kicked off Saturday, Feb. 6 at the Cape Girardeau County Park to help the Special Olympics.
More than a hundred participants and 50 virtual participants took the plunge out into the lake.
The water temperature was a cold 39 degrees.
Trevor Denton one who took the plunge. He says this is an important cause to help out these athletes.

Add another long-time tradition to the list of events that won’t be held due ot the COVID-19 pandemic: The Edmonds Uplift Society said that it is “regretfully canceling” the 14th Annual Polar Plunge, which draws several hundred people to Brackett’s Landing beach for a cold-water dip on New Year’s Day.According to Daphne’s bar owner and event founder Brian Taylor, the accompanying pre-event festivities at Daphne’s are also canceled this year. He noted, however, that the Uplift Society “has no control over people’s individual actions and public accessible spaces.”
