The Delaware State Chamber of Commerce awarded the Josiah Marvel Cup Award to Major General (Ret.) Francis D. Vavala.
The award was given at the State Chamber’s 184
th Annual Dinner.
Established in 1951, the Marvel Cup honors a Delawarean who has made an outstanding contribution to the state, community, or society. The Chamber’s highest honor is named in memory of Josiah Marvel, who reorganized and served as the first president of the State Chamber in 1913. Recipients of the Marvel Cup are kept secret until the night of the dinner.

The Dick DiSabatino Award, named for former DSCC Chairman Richard DiSabatino Sr., was established in the mid-1990s to recognize contributions to shape opinion and public policy in Delaware. The rarely given honor was last presented in 2019 to Joseph G. DiPinto, a former state representative. Prior to that, the award was given in 2013 to John H. Taylor Jr., executive director of the Delaware Public Policy Institute (DPPI).
“She has made such contributions to our state in so many different ways and affecting so many different populations,” U.S. Representative Lisa Blunt Rochester said of Henry, who is known for her commitment to public service with an emphasis on working to improve the lives of women, children, families, and the elderly.

The Van Wert Area Chamber of Commerce will present its 2021 annual Chamber Awards as a two-week event beginning Monday, February 15.
Awards will be presented to businesses based on performance, events, and milestones in 2020. Ray Miller: Recipient must be a Van Wert County resident that is affiliated with the Chamber or a Chamber member business who has shown a strong commitment to the community through volunteer work, participation in community organizations, and outstanding service to the community in 2020. Past winners include Mark White, Jacque Welch, Eric McCracken, and Gary Taylor.

Marshall County Chamber of Commerce executive director Scott Reager this past week announced special events for 2021.
Via Chamber Chatter, the weekly newsletter of the Chamber of Commerce, the dates of seven events which the Chamber will hopefully be able to sponsor were announced. Along with plans for these events, requests were made for members to volunteer to spearhead these attractions.
Of course, the key to having the events will be if Gov. Jim Justice changes the numbers of individuals who can gather.
Reager hasn’t scheduled any of the events until early April in hopes that the governor will act in favor of the Chamber.
