PITTSFIELD â€” Investigators say they have identified two additional victims of Conrad Mainwaring, the 69-year-old former Olympic runner for Antigua who has been charged with sexually assaulting boys while working at Camp Greylock in Becket in the 1970s. A Superior Court grand jury last week indicted Mainwaring on three more counts of indecent assault and battery on a person 14 or older and one more count of indecent assault and battery on a child under 14, the Berkshire District Attorney s Office said Wednesday in a statement.   BECKET — It all began with a tip to a freelance reporter at ESPN. State police opened an investigation into Mainwaring after reporter Mike Kessler published an investigative report on ESPN that documented more than 40 years of allegations and complaints that he had sexually abused dozens of boys and young men across the U.S.

Former Pittsfield Officer admits to improper storage of gun, which teen used to harm herself

Authorities investigate the July 2018 shooting incident at the home of former Pittsfield Police Officer Miles Barber. Barber has admitted to improperly storing his gun, which his daughter used to harm herself. EAGLE FILE PHOTO PITTSFIELD — The criminal case against a former Pittsfield Police officer whose teenage daughter used his service weapon to shoot herself will be dismissed if he stays out of trouble for two years. Miles Barber, 58, admitted last week to improperly storing his large-capacity firearm near a minor by leaving it on top of a bureau in his home in July 2018. Judge John Agostini rejected a recommendation by the Berkshire District Attorney’s Office to sentence Barber to four to five years in state prison, calling the request “quite unusual.” Instead, he adopted the defense’s recommendation to continue the case without a finding for two years.
