Local elections 2021: West Norfolk town council by-elections

Published: 1:09 PM May 11, 2021    Counting of votes for town council by-elections in west Norfolk took place on Tuesday, May 11. - Credit: PA The final results of the west Norfolk parish council elections have been announced. A number of new councillors have filled vacant parish council seats after people took to polling stations on Thursday, May 6 to vote. Town councils in Downham Market, Brancaster and Clenchwarton were looking to fill a number of vacancies at the local elections last Thursday and counting for these posts took place on Tuesday, May 11. In Downham Market s South Ward, Stephen Paul Moyses claimed the seat, with 459 votes, and Mark Eastwood, who was the other candidate standing for the vacancy in the ward, received 281 votes.

Voters in Downham Market described the experience as no different to normal despite the restrictions, as residents voted to elect new county council members, the next police and crime commissioner, and town councillors in their ward. There was a steady flow of people entering the polling station at the Downham Market Methodist Church at midday on Thursday, May 6.

People behind the No Child Hungry Scheme in Downham Market aim to raise around £4,500 to continue buying food and hygiene items for young people and families struggling in their area. Swift nesting boxes built in memory of Norfolk codebreaker

Nesting boxes are being put up around west Norfolk in memory of Margaret Bullen. - Credit: Archant Mrs Bullen s son Andy, a West Norfolk councillor, has had 20 nesting boxes made. They will be put up under the eaves of buildings in Downham Market,  Heacham, King s Lynn, Barton Bendish, HIlgay and Methwold. Her favourite bird was the swift, said Mr Bullen. I got in touch with the Forward Day Centre in North Lynn and they made me 20 nesting boxes in memory of my mother. Mr Bullen, who represents the North Downham Ward, wants the council to require developers to install swift boxes on new properties.

Downham Market vaccine hub is coming say health chiefs  | Updated: 23:20, 11 March 2021 Health chiefs have insisted that a new coronavirus vaccine hub will open in Downham within weeks, weeks after one was pledged. The assurance comes amid growing criticism from residents and some community representatives about the provision of the jabs in the town. Three GP surgeries in Downham have been providing vaccinations in the meantime, though many residents say they have had to travel elsewhere to be protected. Downham Market 2. (2856220) Borough councillor Andy Bullen asked: “Why mislead the public at such a crucial time? “We expected the hub in February and were assured that it was to go ahead. It is now March and I don’t think it unfair to ask for an update.”
