Decennial zone equalization hits trustees desks | News

PAYETTE — As the Western Treasure Valley continues to grow, Idaho Code 33-313 dictates that K-12 school districts not only maintain at least five trustee zones but not more than nine, but also that these districts balance the number of citizens and students each trustee represents within 120 days of receiving the official tallies of each decennial census. The task of evaluating these results appeared on the Payette School District Board of Trustees’ regular meeting agenda for May 10. At the heart of the trustees’ discussion was whether to authorize a proposed  agreement with the Idaho School Boards Association to compile census data to adjust trustees’ zones, or to pay for a separate company to compile the data as was done ten years prior. The board is presently composed of five trustees.

Trustees seeking out voters in need of levy info

PAYETTE — With its two-year supplemental tax levy set to expire in 2021, the Payette School District Board of Trustees approved a resolution in December to send a renewal to voters. The board submitted its ballot language in January for the March 9 election, as required under Idaho Code 34-439A. During the board’s regular meeting on Feb. 8, Chairman Andy Kirkendall asked trustees to review their list of registered voters and find those voters they felt could use more information about the levy. “Payette School District has had this supplemental levy in place since 2013; it is not a new tax burden,” wrote Superintendent Robin Gilbert in a Feb. 15 email.

School district plans more remodeling

PAYETTE — As the needs of its students and its support staff continue to change, the Payette School District is planning a few more projects to help change with them. During its regular meeting on Monday, the district Board of Trustees discussed putting to bid several remodeling projects designed to keep up with shifts in enrollment and to ensure student safety. One project would involve switching office spaces of the maintenance department personnel which is currently at the Presidio Alternative High School Building with the district office personnel. A switch would move the maintenance director to the current district office with the warehouse, shop and equipment. Business offices would then move to Presidio to be closer to the district and board meeting rooms and records storage that are housed there.
