Is E10, the new green petrol , safe for your car? The Government wants to increase the ratio of bio ethanol in petrol and diesel; is more alcohol per gallon a good idea? 25 February 2021 • 2:09pm An increase in green bio ethanol appears to make sense, although in reality it raises more questions than it answers Credit: shutterstock The Government will announce on Thursday that, from September, all fuel stations will sell E10 bio ethanol fuel but what effect will it – and the way in which it is to be introduced – have on your car?  Initial interest has centred on claims from the AA that, due to the reduced efficiency of E10 petrol (and B7 bio diesel), drivers’ fuel costs will rise by about 1.6 per cent.
