As part of our obituary coverage marking the death of Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, the Royal Central team are reliving some of their favourite moments involving His Royal Highness. In this article, Deputy Editor Brittani Barger talks us through her most memorable moment.
Over the course of his 99 years, the Duke of Edinburgh had many memorable moments, and picking one was difficult. However, I kept going back to the one moment that has stuck in my mind for years – when he walked his sister-in-law, Princess Margaret, down the aisle in 1960.
The reason I chose this moment is that this was not something he had to do. He didn’t have to walk Princess Margaret down the aisle that day, but he stepped in since her father, King George VI, had died in 1952. It was a heartwarming gesture for a brother-in-law to make and showed how close he was with his sister-in-law. The Queen and Prince Philip s beloved niece and nephew Lady Sarah Chatto and David Linley will be among the 30 mourners at his funeral on Friday.
Lady Sarah, 54, and David Linley, the Earl of Snowdon, are the children of Princess Margaret and her first husband, Lord Snowdon. They will attend with Lady Sarah s husband, Daniel Chatto.
Buckingham Palace said the Queen faced some very difficult decisions as she selected the 30 guests permitted under Covid-19 rules, from the original 800-strong congregation, and had tried to ensure all branches of the duke s family were represented.
The decision to invite David - also known by his professional name of David Linley - Lady Sarah and her husband is an indication of how highly they are regarded within the royal family, and is a tribute to the close relationship the Duke of Edinburgh enjoyed with his sister-in-law Princess Margaret.

Buckingham Palace has revealed the 30 guests who will be attending Prince Philip s funeral at St George s Chapel, Windsor Castle on Saturday.
Coronavirus restrictions meant the ceremony has had to be scaled down, with only 30 guests allowed in contrast with the estimated 800 originally planned to attend.
The shortened guest list includes many of the
Duke of Edinburgh s closest relatives but his great-grandchildren - including Prince George and Princess Charlotte - will not be there as they were likely thought too young for the televised proceedings.
