Grand jury to hear evidence in Bessemer double slaying at Easter gathering Updated Apr 22, 2021; An Easter shooting at a family gathering in Bessemer that left two people dead will go to a grand jury to decide whether any criminal charges are warranted, police announced Thursday. Bessemer police initially said the shooting was deemed justified but after further investigation and more discussion, authorities decided to present the evidence to a grand jury to make the decision. Officers were called just before 7:30 p.m. that Sunday to First Street North. When they arrived on the scene, they found a man and woman in the yard both suffering from gunshot wounds.

Deadly double killing at Bessemer Easter gathering ruled justifiable Updated Apr 09, 2021; An Easter shooting at a family gathering in Bessemer that left two people dead has been ruled justifiable and no charges will be filed. Bessemer police were called just before 7:30 p.m. Sunday to the 10 block of First Street North. When they arrived on the scene, they found a man and woman in the yard both suffering from gunshot wounds. Kendrick Felix Morrisette, 22, was pronounced dead on the scene. Kamisha Malea Davis, 27, was taken to UAB Medical West where she was pronounced dead at 7:38 p.m. Authorities said Davis was the sister of Morrissette’s girlfriend.

Authorities ID 2nd victim killed at family Easter gathering in Bessemer Updated 8:52 AM; Authorities have released the name of a 22-year-old man killed during a family Easter gathering in Bessemer. The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office Tuesday identified the victim as Kendrick Felix Morrisette. He lived in Birmingham and was one of two people killed Sunday night at the holiday celebration. Bessemer police were called just before 7:30 p.m.  to the 10 block of First Street North. Lt. Christian Clemons said the victims were at a large family Easter gathering when shots were fired. Morrisette was pronounced dead on the scene at 7:45 p.m. Kamisha Malea Davis, 27, was taken to UAB Medical West where she was pronounced dead at 7:38 p.m.

Drury raised their record to 9-8 while dropping the Bearcats to 6-6. The Panthers had a three-point lead in the closing seconds of regulation when McKendee’s Brendon Gooch hit a three-pointer with four seconds remaining that forced the game in overtime tied at 67-67. Drury started the extra period on a 9-0 run and held off the Bearcats, outscoring them 15-10 in OT.
