Kunje in court for attempting to overtake Chakwera s motorcade

The Senior Resident Magistrate Court in Zomba is expected to continue hearing a case where Malawi Electoral Commission (Mec) Commissioner Linda Kunje and driver Jones Tewesa are answering a case of criminal reckless and negligence. The two are alleged to have committed the offence on December 10, 2020, along the M3 road after they obstructed President Lazarus Chakwera’s convoy which was on its way from Blantyre to Zomba where the President was set to preside over a graduation ceremony at Chancellor College. State Prosecutor, Levison Mangani, has told the court that they are ready to parade four witnesses in the case.

BREAKING: Mutharika to Hold Press Briefing Today

Former President Professor Peter Mutharika will hold press briefing at his retirement home in Mangochi district this afternoon. The presser which will be the second since he lost during the court sanctioned fresh presidential elections will start at 2 O’clock. Mutharika, who is also Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) leader, is expected to comment on the abused MK 6.2 Billion Covid-19 funds. However, it is not clear if the law professor will also comment on the firing of two DPP’s Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) Commissioner Linda Kunje and Jean Mathanga.

Commissioner Kunje Freed On Bail Kunje Free At Last The Zomba Senior Resident Magistrate Court has granted bail to Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) Commissioner Linda Kunje and his official driver Jones Tewesa. Commissioner Kunje and the driver Tewesa were arrested by the Eastern Region Police for obstructing of President Lazarus Chakwera’s convoy on Thursday last week. In her Bail ruling, Senior Resident Magistrate Hellen Chitsanzo Kachala ordered the two to present bail bond in the sum of MK100, 000 each, two blood relations as surities and surrender travel documents.

December 16, 2020 Zawadi Chilunga- Nyasa Times 51 Comments Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) Commissioner Linda Kunje  has entered a plea of “not guilty” to charges  the State levelled against her for allegedly obstructing President Lazarus Chakwera’s convoy on Thursday. Kunje together with her driver Tewesa (in handcuffs) captured at court Kunje, who handed herself to police on Monday after the Eastern Region Police Headquarters in Zomba launched a manhunt for her, took the plea when she appeared before Zomba senior resident  magistrate court on Tuesday. She is charged alongside  her driver John Tewesa. The State slapped the two with a charge of  reckless and neglect act, contrary to Section 246 (a) of the Penal Code as read with Section 21 (c) of the Penal Code.

MEC Commissioner Linda Kunje spend a night in police cell

Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) Commissioner Linda Kunje has spent a night in police cell after her arrest on Monday. Kunje handed herself to Eastern Region Police headquarters after being hunted by police on allegation that she obstructed President Dr. Lazarus According to information at hand, Kunje will appear in court today for formal charges on the matter.
