CINCINNATI (FOX19) - A total of 17.6% of Hamilton County residents have received at least the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, according to Commissioner Denise Driehaus.
There is a disparity in who is getting the vaccine in Hamilton County though, officials said.
Officials showed data on Wednesday on the percentage of African American residents getting the vaccine in Hamilton County.
The African American population makes up 12.67% of Hamilton County’s total vaccination percentage. This makes Hamilton County second in all of Ohio counties in vaccinating African Americans.

County Administrator Jeff Aluotto says commissioners raised the real property transfer tax a few years ago amid budget problems. So the concept was to raise the transfer fee by a mil, which would produce roughly $4 million to assist with the county s budget issues at the time, Aluotto said.
A mil is about $1 per $1,000 of property value. On the sale of a $200,000 house, the change saves the homeowner about $200. We were in a tough time a few years ago with our budget and were really struggling, said Commissioner Denise Driehaus. So we, in partnership with realtors and others in the industry, raised the fee knowing that if we could stabilize our budget that we would be able to roll this back. We made a commitment at that time we are now honoring that commitment.

HAMILTON COUNTY, Ohio â Economic recovery in the county is imperative; unemployment rates are still high and small business owners still need assistance, Hamilton County Commissioner Alicia Reece said.
Those reasons, among others, prompted county commissioners to pass a resolution on Tuesday forming the Economic Relief and Recovery Task Force.

Kesterman says roughly 18,000 staff members are interested in getting vaccinated. He says within the next two weeks, all staff members may be vaccinated.
Approximately 65,000 people have started the vaccination process in Hamilton County, which is roughly 8% of the county s population.
COVID-19 Cases Trending Down
COVID-19 cases have been trending in the right direction, according to Commissioner Denise Driehaus. Less than 3,000 new cases have been reported in the past week. Driehaus points to two things impacting the spread of the virus: vaccinations and changes in community behavior.
