COLUMBUS, Ohio (FOX19) - Ohio will stop its participation in the $300 Federal Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA) program on June 26, Gov. Mike DeWine announced Thursday.
The governor said the assistance was always meant to be temporary.
“When the program was put in place, it was a lifeline for many Americans at a time when the only weapon we had in fighting the virus was through social distancing, masking, and sanitization,” said Gov. DeWine. “This is no longer the case as we now have an abundant supply of vaccines.”

CINCINNATI (FOX19) - Almost half of the Hamilton County population is vaccinated, but Hamilton County health officials say there is a decrease in people getting it.
Around 45% of eligible Hamilton County residents have received the COVID-19 vaccine, according to officials.
County health leaders say there are plenty of vaccines to go around, but fewer people are wanting to get them.
“We are seeing it a lot more difficult to fill appointments right now,” Hamilton County Health Commissioner Greg Kesterman said. “Two weeks ago, if you tried to get a vaccine, it was really hard to get an appointment anywhere, and over the last two weeks, we’ve transitioned to finally having spots available for people to be able to get vaccinated.

COLUMBUS, Ohio (FOX19) - Ohio is going in the wrong way on the road to lifting health orders.
The benchmark to lift health orders is 50 cases per 100,000 residents for two weeks, Gov. Mike DeWine has said.
Ohio is at 200 cases per 100,000 people as of Thursday. Four weeks ago, the number was 144 per 100,000.
âWhat weâre seeing in Ohio is a strong variant that is multiplying very quickly and is more contagious than the virus weâve seen in the past, but we have hope, and hope is the vaccine,â said Gov. DeWine. âVaccination is how we get out of this.â
