CM declares cyclone emergency KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah presiding over a meeting regarding Cyclone Tauktae on Saturday at CM House declared emergency in all the districts located along the coastline for taking precautionary measures to meet any untoward situation. A control room should be established at the chief secretary s office to keep close coordination with all the districts, in respect of their requirements and giving them necessary instruction on behalf of the government, he said. The Cyclone Tauktae is heading towards Indian Gujrat, but its periphery is expected to hit the coastline of Balochistan and Sindh causing torrential rain, high winds and rough sea.

In an advisory posted on its website, PMD said that Tauktae may transform into a Very Severe Cyclonic Storm (VSCS) during next 18-24 hours. It is expected to move further in the northwest direction and reach Indian Gujarat by the afternoon/evening of May 18. It said the cyclonic storm has tracked northwestward at a speed of 18km and at 2100 PST it lay centered near latitude 14.5N and longitude 72.8E, at a distance of about 1,310km south-southeast of Karachi.

Though the cyclone is intensifying, it will pass by Pakistan s coastal belt without touching it. Since the cyclone is turning away from Pakistan s coastal areas, it is no longer expected that Karachi will receive torrential rains, he added, stating that however, the south-eastern Sindh areas are expected to receive rainfall.

CM Sindh declares cyclone emergency in districts along coastal belt Pakistan Sat, May 15, 2021 Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has declared a cyclone  emergency in districts of the province lying on the coastal belt of the province.  The decision was taken on Saturday when the chief minister was presiding over a meeting today at the CM House where he declared an emergency in all districts located along the coastal belt.  The decision was taken as a precaution so that any untoward situation can be avoided. “A control room should be established at the chief secretary s office to keep close coordination with all the districts, in respect of their requirements and giving them necessary instruction on behalf of the government,” he said.
