The auto rickshaws, which aren’t fit to run but are still plying, will face action from the transport department.
Transport Commissioner Avinash Dhakne has asked the RTOs to crack down on the auto-rickshaws which should have been scrapped but are still ferrying passengers or goods.
The department is seeking the help of Mumbai Police in its drive to punish such auto rickshaw drivers. “I have asked the
RTO officials to launch a crackdown on the autos that don’t have valid permits and fitness certificates,” said Dhakne, who held a video conference with all RTOs on December 9.
