Audubon City Council Approves Fee Schedule For Fire Department Service Calls

The Audubon City Council has approved the final reading of an ordinance that will allow the Audubon Fire Department to begin charging fees for service calls. According to Clerk, Joe Foran, all three of the ordinance’s required readings were approved unanimously. He explains how the fees are determined. Foran says there were two reasons for the implementation of a fee schedule, the first being fairness. The Audubon Fire Department receives a bulk of its funding from the City of Audubon and its taxpayers. However, many of the department’s calls are outside of city limits. Foran notes they do receive contributions from other townships in the county, but they often are barely enough to cover operational expenses. He says this is the other purpose for the fees.

Audubon City Council Considers 28E Agreement With County To Hand Over Law Enforcement In Town To Sheriff s Office | CBC Online

The Audubon City Council is considering entering into an agreement with the Audubon County Board of Supervisors that would hand off law enforcement responsibilities in town to the county sheriff’s office. Clerk, Joe Foran, says Sheriff, Todd Johnson, brought the details of the proposal to the council during their meeting last week. The 28E agreement would fold the entirety of the Audubon Police Department, including staff, patrol vehicles and equipment, into the sheriff’s office. Audubon would then pay the county for contracted law enforcement within city limits. According to Foran, there are two main benefits for Audubon residents if the agreement is approved.

Audubon City Council Approves Final Reading For Utility Billing And Rate Change

Foran adds rates are going up slightly, but bills will be smaller than many customers are used to simply because they are looking at a much shorter period of time. When calculated out, he expects the average customer will be paying about $35 more per month for water services through the city. The council has been considering this change since at least Nov. 1, and Foran says they have not heard much from the public for or against it.
