Outdoornews May 13, 2021 Ashland Team / March Wardens Amie Egstad, of Bayfield, had received a report of a tribal member harassing/killing a seagull on Lake Superior. The information was turned over to a tribal warden who interviewed the person and enforcement action was taken. Wardens Matthew Koshollek, of Drummond, and Phil Brown, of Iron River, took enforcement action against a crossbow hunter after he admitted to shooting a large 11-point buck in September 2020 and then tagging the deer with the license of a relative. The hunter then shot another buck with his crossbow in November 2020. Wardens Koshollek and Brown took enforcement action against a North Dakota resident after she admitted to shooting a buck without having a license during the 2020 archery season in Bayfield County. The hunter admitted to North Dakota wardens she shot the buck with a crossbow and then bought her license the next day. The hunter was also found to have shot a buck in Wisconsin in 2018 and never

Outdoornews April 1, 2021 Peshtigo Team / January Wardens Paul Hartrick, of Oconto Falls, and Gaven Brault, of Green Bay, responded to a complaint of two bucks locked at the horns. The wardens arrived and observed a large buck dragging a dead buck through the woods. Hartrick placed a catch pole on the buck’s antlers and pulled him to the ground. Brault then held the live buck down and Hartrick handed the catch pole to the reporting party to hang on to. Hartrick then used a saw to cut the dead buck’s antlers out of the entanglement. The large buck was then released with no apparent injuries.

Outdoornews February 4, 2021 Ashland Team / November Wardens Phil Brown, of Iron River, and Dave Sanda, of Gordon, contacted an individual to register a bobcat. It was discovered: the cat had not been tagged correctly; the tag was not validated; the cat was trapped with a cable restraint, which are illegal to use until Dec. 1; and, the individual had illegally placed cable restraints for fisher trapping.  Warden Brown observed an individual driving slowly down a gravel road with a dog running alongside the vehicle. Brown was able to come around the other way and approach the vehicle from the front as the driver retrieved a grouse. The man was driving around with a loaded .22 rifle and shooting grouse from the road without a small game license. The man also admitted to shooting a buck he had not registered.
