The Fort Bedford Honor Guard celebrated its 75 years of service on Tuesday during a ceremony that also recognized the efforts of the last surviving member of the original unit.
The Fort Bedford Honor Guard received a proclamation on Thursday from U.S. Sen. Pat Toomey.
Toomeyâs citation recognizes June 8 as the 75th anniversary of the honor guard that will be celebrated with an opening ceremony and exhibit at the Bedford County Historical Society.
The award was presented by state director Robert J. DeSousa of Toomeyâs office at the Bedford American Legion on Thursday to Commander Jim Williams and members of the honor guard.
âSenator Pat Toomey is the son of a Marine Corps veteran and made veteran issues one of his major concerns over the last 11 years,â said DeSousa. âWhen he found out about the 75th anniversary, he made a proclamation. They will be doing another celebration this year, and they have done a book on the history of the organization.â
