The Jets cornerback room may be young and experienced, but for right now, head coach Robert Saleh isn t looking to add a veteran presence.
Addressing the media on Thursday for the first time since the beginning of OTAs this week, Saleh was asked about the cornerbacks on this roster.
It s a group that was torn apart routinely last season, but has improved this offseason with some fresh faces from the NFL draft. There s a lot of work to be had, Saleh said Thursday. Obviously they re young, they re big, and they ve got great mental demeanor, they ve got great intent, they want to learn, they want to do good and we ve got a lot of time.

There s going to be a ton of focus on the New York Jets latest draft class during the 2021 season, and for good reason. They selected some players who could be franchise cornerstones for years to come, such as quarterback Zach Wilson, offensive lineman Alijah Vera-Tucker and more.
However, there were already some talented players on the Jets roster heading into the offseason. Even though New York went 2-14 in 2020, that doesn t mean there weren t some players on the team who could end up being part of a turnaround for the franchise.
With the free-agent additions and their rookies, some returning Jets players will have more competition for playing time during training camp and the preseason. In order to secure jobs, they ll have to impress and put themselves in positions to have big seasons.

The draft is over. And he still has significant issues at cornerback.
So the next step is simple sign Richard Sherman, a likely future Hall of Famer, in a reunion with new Jets head coach Robert Saleh.
The move makes so much sense, on several levels.
The Jets still do not have sure-thing solutions at either outside corner spot (or in the slot, for that matter). Sherman could fill one of those outside positions. He also could mentor the Jets’ young corners, since he is plenty experienced in Saleh’s Cover 3 defense.

The New York Jets on Saturday selected two players named Michael Carter on the third day of the 2021 NFL Draft.
The Jets had the 107th overall pick and decided to select running back Michael Carter out of North Carolina. He could definitely compete for some carries along with Lamical Perine, Ty Johnson and Tevin Coleman during training camp and the regular season.
In the fifth round, the Jets selected defensive back Michael Carter II out of Duke. He will be trying to compete for time against players like Bryce Hall, Bless Austin, Justin Hardee, among others.
