Tenure Track System reforms
December 18, 2020
The Tenure Track System (TTS) was introduced by Higher Education Commission of Pakistan (HEC) in 2002, as part of the strategy for reforming education quality. The objective was to attract better-qualified faculty members, and recognise and reward superior performance. The expectation was that over time the two systems would converge into a single, high-quality, competitive system of faculty recruitment, retention, promotion, and tenure.
The first version of the TTS statutes was developed in 2003, and adopted and implemented by a few universities in 2005. These statutes were adapted from practices in vogue in universities in advanced countries, especially the Faculty Handbook of The University of New Mexico, USA. The DePaulia

DePaul’s Faculty Council leadership and President A. Gabriel Esteban are at an impasse on whether to conduct a formal review of Interim Provost Salma Ghanem due to issues of shared governance.
DePaul Newsline sent out an announcement from President Esteban on Nov. 13 revealing that the search for a new provost had begun. With this announcement, Esteban also mentioned that due to the uncertain environment that DePaul is currently operating as a result of Covid-19, a committee of faculty, staff, a student selected by SGA and board members was tasked with conducting a “an exhaustive formal review of the performance of the interim provost to determine if a national search is necessary.”
Colleagues’ claims are ‘so false as to seem downright psychotic’
A New York University professor is suing several colleagues for alleged defamation in relation to his unpopular views on COVID-19 interventions, including the efficacy of masks and particular treatments.
The private university opened an investigation against Mark Crispin Miller, a tenured professor in the Department of Media, Culture, and Communications, after 25 faculty called on the department to respond to his “ongoing harm to our students.”
Their letter refers to a September incident in Miller’s class “Mass Persuasion and Propaganda.” A female student, who has since dropped out of the course, accused him of promoting right-wing conspiracy theories about COVID-19, and the department chair quickly responded that MCC was considering “next steps.”
