Is FATF biased towards Pakistan? - Daily Times

Daily Times July 1, 2021 It’s been a roller-coaster ride for Pakistan since it was put on the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) grey list in 2018. The first time the country found itself there was back in 2008 and then again in 2012. Pakistan has fought tooth-and-nail to fulfil all 27 parameters required by the organisation. It was able to comply with all but one. The global financial watchdog also slapped Islamabad with 6-pointer supplementary guidelines. Pakistan, the FATF judged, still needs to do more to curb financing of those groups that the UN Security Council designates terror outfits; as well prosecuting and convicting banned persons; and combating drugs and precious stone smuggling until the most recent evaluation. Islamabad has, however, taken action such as prosecuting Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) head Hafiz Saeed and his accomplices. The discriminatory approach of international organisations is a way to build political and economic pressure on Pakistan.

Extremism persists

Extremism persists A visit to Punjab University has rarely been a joy. The event manager of the function that I attended at the university told me that he had been strictly forbidden to play music other than just one or two verses of any national song. It was not necessary to ask what made the administration arrive at this unhealthy decision. At the university, every boy and girl are suspected of having illicit relations. Music is one of them. The IJT has assumed the role of society modifier with the jurisdiction to use violence to get their agenda of morality established in academic institutions. Last week, it had a scuffle with a group of students of the Government Science College, Wahdat Road, Lahore, on their alleged involvement in using drugs. During the

FATF s nefarious designs - Daily Times

Daily Times June 30, 2021 Notwithstanding the fact that Pakistan has implemented 26 out of 27 action plans given by the FATF, it remains in the grey list. It has also been given a new six point action plan to remove deficiencies in Mutual Evaluation Report in order to secure exit from the list. Foreign minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi reacting to the development said “there was no justification for keeping Pakistan in the grey list adding that some powers wanted to keep the country under pressure,” though he did not name those powers. Placing Pakistan on the grey list and then persisting with it in spite of faithful implementation of almost the entire action plan given to her is not only politically motivated but also discriminatory.Official circles believe that it was unfair to undertake two different processes against Pakistan simultaneously.
