A Santa Clara County prosecutor is in need of a bone marrow transplant after experiencing a recurrence of an aggressive form of leukemia diagnosed in 2019. Charlie Huang has spent over twenty years at the Santa Clara County district attorney s office as a prosecutor and co-founded the National Asian Pacific Islander Prosecutors Association. The organization aims to increase Asian and Pacific Islander representation in the criminal-justice system.
A global search for a bone marrow match has revealed no matches for the husband and father of three so far.

The Asian American Donor Program presents the 14
th annual “Laugh for Lives,” a virtual comedy benefit, on Friday, May 7, from 7 to 8 p.m.
Hosted by Rommel Condara, the show will feature Pauline Yasuda, Rick Gutierrez, Tom Thakkar, Atsuko Okatsuka and Ali Lu.
The event will celebrate the launch of AADP’s Latino and Hispanic donor education program.
Headquartered in Alameda, AADP is dedicated to increasing the availability of potential stem cell donors for patients with life-threatening diseases curable with a stem cell transplant.
Sponsors include Lanzhou Hand-Pulled Noodles, Morgan Stanley and Sling.

In October 2020, Ericka was diagnosed with Myelodysplastic Syndromes (MDS), a group of diverse bone marrow disorders. Ericka is Dutch Indonesian, Filipino, and Portuguese. So, her matching donor will most likely be someone of a similar ethnic background.
A drive-thru stem cell registration event takes place on Sunday, March 14, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Hughes Business Park, 5492 Pirrone Road, in Salida to help Ericka and other patients of color searching for a stem cell match.
