GUWAHATI: The Assam unit of the BJP on Saturday substantiated with pages from history affirming chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s assertion that Syama Prasad Mookerjee was a pioneer in promoting Assamese language at Calcutta University.
Refuting Congress’ allegation that Mookerjee had no role in introducing Assamese language at Calcutta University, political secretary to the CM, Jayanta Malla Baruah, in a news conference here said acclaimed scholars from Assam mentioned in their historical writings about Mookerjee’s role in this regard. Taking a jibe at Congress and other opposition parties, he poked fun at ‘poor historical knowledge’ of their leaders.

GUWAHATI: The management, teachers, and students of Paschim Guwahati Mahavidyalaya offered their tributes to Vijay Lakshmi Das, faculty in the Assamese department of the institution.
On the occasion, they lighted 500 earthen oil lamps at the college premises on Saturday night. The tribute ceremony was organized under the aegis of
AASU (All Assam Students Union) unit of the college.
Late Vijay Lakshmi Das breathed her last due to COVID-19 infection on April 30.
