A unique school year concluded in a virtual celebration, as Curro Holdings’ Class of 2020 logged in for the annual Matric Awards ceremony in March. Traditionally, Curro’s top achievers were celebrated at a prestigious gala event in January each year.
While this year’s event required a format change, there was certainly no less reason to celebrate as the Class of 2020 truly excelled under immense pressure.
The Matric Awards honoured learners from Curro schools who have completed the Independent Examinations Board (IEB) and National Senior Certificate (NSC).

“The St Andrew’s College matric class of 2020 has produced a superb set of results in both the IEB and the Cambridge International A Level examinations,” said Alan Thompson, St Andrew’s College Headmaster.
“These results are a reflection of the extraordinary commitment of boys and staff under the challenging circumstances of 2020.
“I am delighted with these results, as our academic excellence strategy of the past three years is really adding value to the St Andrew’s College offering. This strategy has seen a full rebuild of our academic facilities and an overhaul of our curriculum (of which the introduction of A levels is a part).
Kingswood College celebrates the Matric Class of 2020
The Kingswood College Matric class of 2020 gathered a total of 95 distinctions.
Kingswood Senior School Head Tracy van Molendorff said: “We are incredibly proud of the class of 2020. They have shown true grit, resilience and determination amidst a year of uncertainty, on-line learning and a pandemic that resulted in a new reality for their matric class.
“We commend those who achieved distinctions and are incredibly proud of those who, through perseverance, achieved beyond our expectations. The committed and dedicated academic staff are to be commended on the way that they approached a year no one had prepared for, in a manner that ensured that this class was able to complete their matric year successfully and achieve to their full individual potential.
7 distinctions for one of Parktown Girlsâ top achievers

Johannesburg - Parktown High Girlsâ bubbly and optimistic Madiha Acoob is already imagining herself at the prestigious medical school at the University of Witwatersrand.
The transition will see the 18-year-old remain in Parktown, but this time around, lecture halls, laboratories and medical scrubs will become part of her life.
Acoob said the long wait for her matric results has been filled with anxiety and excitement, as she eagerly waits for the next chapter in her life.
Acoob scored seven distinctions in English Home Language, Afrikaans first additional, maths, life orientation, accounting, life sciences and physical sciences.
Soweto Maths genius Kgaogelo Bopape off to UCT

Johannesburg - Horizon International High School pupil Kgaogelo Bopape who recently made his nation proud by winning a bronze medal at the 61st International Maths Olympiad is headed to the University of Cape Town.
Bopape from Soweto, achieved a 97 percent pass in Maths and a total of seven As. Among the subjects Bopape bagged distinctions in were English Home Language, Mathematics, Life Orientation, Engineering Graphics and Design, Life Sciences.
Bopape, who visited his Horizon School to get his matric results, explained that this has been a very difficult year for many students due to the coronavirus, but he was able to use the online communication and resources provided by his school to continue with matric studies despite the lockdowns.
