Licking County schools innovate to meet needs of diverse students COVID

Newark Advocate COVID-19’s impact on education across Licking County has been profound, driving technical innovations for virtual learning and often placing more weight on parents to directly participate in their child’s education. But there is an extra layer of challenge for school districts in western Licking County – the portion of the county that demographically documents its most populous racial diversity. The Advocate recently reached out to Southwest Licking and Licking Heights school district officials to discuss their strategies for meeting these educational challenges. Around 30 languages spoken within districts There are more than two-dozen languages spoken within both the Licking Heights and the Southwest Licking school districts.

Stratton named citizen of hte year

Emily Stratton Emily Stratton OKLAHOMA CITY — Norman resident Emily Stratton, executive director of the nonprofit Oklahoma Foundation for Excellence, has been awarded the 2021 Multicultural Citizen of the Year by the Multicultural Education Institute at the University of Central Oklahoma. Stratton was recognized at the institute’s recent virtual conference for her leadership in developing and coordinating the Teachers of English Learners Project, a collaborative online training platform to provide professional development, networking and support for classroom teachers in schools with a high enrollment of English Learner students. The Multicultural Education Institute at the University of Central Oklahoma is a two-day networking and training opportunity for education professionals that embraces diversity in the classroom and seeks to improve academic success.
