AN OXFORD tour guide has taken to YouTube to give people virtual tours around the city from the comfort of their own homes. Rob Walters, 73, has been a Guild of Oxford Tourism guide for the past fifteen years but decided he did not want his knowledge of the city to go to waste as the nation underwent lockdown restrictions. The seasoned tour guide said: “The lockdowns partly encouraged me to make the channel, but I’ve been doing it for quite a while, but it seemed a good idea to use the facts, knowledge, and stories that I’ve picked up from guiding in another media.
“I like them all obviously but that is my favourite.” The Oxford Guild guide also liked to take his tourists to historical pubs all over the city, when they were allowed to be open. He said: “I like to the tourists to pubs. “The Lamb and Flag, it is such a nice pub with a very interesting layout, but it’s so important historically, association with The Inklings; that group mattered to the Lamb and Flag as well as the Eagle and Child.” On Thursday it was announced that the Lamb and Flag will close due to the tough trading conditions of the pandemic.
