THE SABC says it takes allegations of payola seriously and artists with evidence should come forward.
This comes after gatvol artists demonstrated outside the broadcaster’s office in Auckland Park, Joburg, on Wednesday 10 March, demanding an end to the practice. They claimed that artists were expected to pay between R10 000 and R100 000 for their music to be played.
Metro FM and Ukhozi FM were among the stations allegations were made against.

More than 5 000 municipal health practitioners are earmarked for Covid-19 vaccines within the coming weeks, with the first group of 16 officials having already been inoculated.
Health and Social Development MMC, Cllr Eunice Mgcina says all frontline workers in the City’s healthcare facilities will be jabbed with the Covid-19 vaccine as part of the initial phase of the national inoculation drive.
To date, over twenty frontline workers in municipal healthcare facilities have received the injection, which helps their bodies build up immunity against the Coronavirus.
Chico Nyathi and Bongani Masando from the City’s Emergency Management Services (EMS) were among the first 16 healthcare practitioners to be inoculated with the Covid-19 vaccine at the Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital on Friday, 5 March.

JOHANNESBURG â Johannesburg Water said it expects some of its reservoirs to stabilise after several areas were left with no water this weekend.
Places which were affected include Auckland Park, Coronationville, Clairmont, and Sophiatown.
The utility said the Hursthill reservoir supplying water to these areas is at a critically low level due to interruption on its infrastructure.
It s not clear exactly when water will be restored.
Joburg Water s Eleanor Mavimbela said, âAt the moment weâre waiting for our reservoirs to build up capacity so that affected residents can start getting pressure back.â

Some Johannesburg residents will be without water for 30-hours starting from 1 pm today.
Rand Water says this is due to a planned shutdown which will allow them to replace a 800mm valve and bypass valve.
Speaking to John Perlman, City of Johannesburg waters communications officer Eleanor Mavimbela says water tankers will be available for residents.
This is routine maintenance, if it was something broken it would have been an emergency shutdown. We are expecting that it would not take longer than the 30 hours allocated.
