The Utah Legislature passed a ban on school districts or the Board of Education requiring face masks in schools during a special session in May. Under the bill, schools and teachers can encourage mask-wearing, but they can t legally mandate it to attend or participate in in-person instruction, athletics or other extracurricular activities during the upcoming school year. Only counties can now implement mask mandates.

Granite School District officials say they are awaiting final guidance on COVID-19 protocols from local and state health departments before deciding on health guidelines. Regardless, we highly encourage mask-wearing in our schools in accordance with CDC guidance. Ogden School District director of communications Jer Bates said it s something free and simple to do.
Bates said some Ogden families have reached out with questions about where to go, or how to sign up for a COVID dose for their tween or teen. These school clinics make it much more convenient.

OGDEN, Utah â The Ogden School District is making what they call a âbold moveâ to help classes be more affordable. The school board voted to waive registration and class-related fees but not athletic and extracurricular fees.
When Ogden School students come back this fall, they wonât be paying a $7 fee to use computers or a $40 fee to use textbooks.
The school board voted Thursday to waive the curricular and co-curricular fees to give relief to struggling families in Ogden.
âItâs about removing barriers for our students and creating some equity and still giving the programs the funding they need to be able to support our students,â said Ogden School District Superintendent Luke Rasmussen.
