ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. At Holiday Lake in St. Augustine, animals dwell in and around it, homes line its banks and there is also a contraption nearby. It s a lift station which is a pumping station that moves wastewater from pipe to pipe.
This weekend, a line blockage caused wastewater – including sewage to back up and spill out onto the ground and into the lake, according to St. Johns County’s Environmental Division Manager Tony Cubbedge said.

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. You’ve heard about solar panels for your home’s roof, but what about a solar roof?
The roof, not conventional solar panels, actually collects the sun s energy and can power the whole home.
Gillian and Bill Tait are changing what it means to soak up the Florida sun with their new roof in the St. Augustine Shores neighborhood.
With the recent explosion of residential and commercial development in south St. Augustine especially along the corridors of Wildwood Drive and State Road 207 growth in this area of St. Johns County is beginning to rival that of communities north and west of the city.
Of course, with growth comes traffic.
St. Johns County officials will host a public meeting to discuss an upcoming project to improve traffic flow at the Wildwood Drive/US 1 South intersection. The meeting will take place from 5 to 6 p.m. Thursday at 49 Shores Blvd. (the headquarters of Deltona Realty).
According to the county, the $1.1 million state Department of Transportation project will include a dual left turn lane and new traffic signal. Construction is expected to begin next month and continue through October.
