The event is a Staten Island High School Baseball League game at Clove Lakes Park. The St. Peter’s team picks up three runs in the first inning and three more runs in the fifth. The team then has a five-run surge in the sixth inning, adding three more to their total in the seventh.

(WWNY) - April is Month of the Military Child, a time dedicated to the sacrifices made by military children. To recognize the occasion, which is symbolized by the color purple, the Carthage Area Chamber of Commerce is teaming up with Augustinian Academy and IMEC to host an event later this month. Through the month of April, active duty and retired military kids can stop at IMEC on Riverside Drive to pick up a goody bag, certificate of appreciation, and a purple luminary bag that parents can write on. Those luminary bags will be lit up in their children’s honor.

John D (Jack) Jones

John D. (Jack) Jones, 83, of 40752 Rogers Crossing Rd, Carthage N.Y. passed away 02/01/2021 at Carthage Area Hospital. Jack was born in Watertown, N.Y. on May 22nd, 1937; the son of William and Elizabeth (Harvey) Jones. He was a 1954 graduate of Augustinian Academy where he lettered in basketball, baseball and football. He attended Canton ATC for several months before beginning his career at Fort Drum, N.Y. with the N.Y. Army National Guard. He was an Electronics Supervisor at the former training equipment site at Fort Drum until his retirement in 1994. Jack attained the rank of Sgt. First Class with the 127th Maintenance Co., eventually transferring to the N.Y. State Area Command Headquarters in Latham, N.Y. and discharged honorably from the National Guard in February 1995. He then transferred to the U.S. Army Retired Reserves until his faithful and honorable discharge on May 22nd, 1997. Sergeant Ryan G Mason

Sergeant Ryan G. Mason, 36, of El Paso, TX, (formerly of Carthage, NY) was called home on January 28, 2021; after his courageous battle with esophageal cancer, a condition that was service connected to military related toxic exposures. SGT Mason was a true-life hero, and he was nothing short of extraordinary. Although his journey here on Earth was short, he accomplished so much. Upon completing Augustinian Academy and Carthage Central, he joined the Army in 2001 at the age of 17, he was deployed with his Patriot Missile Unit A 2/43 out of Ft. Bliss, TX to Iraq. He later re-enlisted and served a tour of duty in the Republic of Korea. While in the military he quickly climbed rank and became a decorated soldier. It was always important to Ryan to strive and achieve and to always be his best self.
