Sheriff: Race led to fatal Route 332 crash in Canandaigua Inexcusable.
That was the one word Ontario County Sheriff Kevin Henderson had to describe his thoughts around the four-vehicle crash that occurred Tuesday afternoon at the intersection of Route 332 and Airport Road in Canandaigua.
According to official reports, the incident was first noticed by Ontario County Sheriff s Deputy Dana Egburtson, who recorded two vehicles speeding south. Egburtson pulled into traffic to stop the car, but readjusted once the lead car – a gray 2008 Ford Fusion – hit the rear of a tractor-trailer that was turning left. The second speeding car, a white 2014 Mercedes, then struck the rear of the Ford Fusion.
CANANDAIGUA â Ontario County Sheriff Kevin Henderson used words like âinexcusableâ and âunacceptableâ to describe the actions of two drivers in Tuesdayâs crash on Route 332.
One of them, Rachel L. Pierce, 39, of Jefferson Avenue in Canandaigua, died after an apparent race featuring speeds near 100 mph. It ended with Pierceâs vehicle colliding with a tractor-trailer and the other vehicle, driven by Jasen T. Ray, 29, also of Jefferson Avenue, hitting Pierceâs car.
âMy condolences certainly go out to the family of the deceased,â Henderson said during a press conference late Friday morning. âMoreso, my condolences go out to the 13-year-old boy involved in this incident. During the holiday season, he is now a young man without a mother.â

Ontario County Sheriff Kevin Henderson says it was two drivers that were racing each other, led to a deadly crash Tuesday in the Town of Canandaigua.
It happened on Route 332 at the Airport Road intersection.
Authorities say their investigation found that 39-year-old Rachel Pierce was racing a vehicle driven by 29-year-old Jasen Ray on Route 332, and that the two did know each other. Authorities say Pierce was driving over 90 miles per hour when she slammed into the back of a tractor-trailer after it made a left turn in front of the two southbound vehicles.
She was pronounced dead at the scene, her two passengers, her 13-year-old son and a 17-year-old girl were treated for injuries at the hospital and released.
