Top speed is limited to 250kph Based on the recently revealed M4 Competition M xDrive, the new M model swaps the previous-generation convertible’s folding hardtop for a fabric roof, which is said to weigh around 40 percent less. As on the standard 4 Series Convertible, it can be opened or closed in 18sec at vehicle speeds of up to 50kph, and it minimises heat loss and cabin noise with the use of a glass rear window and panel bow structural elements. The M4 Convertible will enter production in July; BMW has no plans to introduce a cheaper rear-driven version.
The new generation BMW 4-Series Convertible will launch in Australia early next year with three powertrain options and a recommended starting price of AU$89,900 (US$68,437) for the base model, which is equipped with the M Sport Package as standard.
The range will kick off with the 420i, which uses a 135 kW (184 PS / 181 HP) and 300 Nm (221 lb-ft) 2.0-liter TwinPower Turbo four-cylinder. Standard gear includes 19-inch wheels, front sports seats with heating, leather upholstery, three-zone climate control, head-up display, smartphone integration, wireless charging pad and digital radio.
Starting at AU$107,900 (US$82,140), the 430i Convertible also packs a 2.0-liter four-cylinder TwinPower Turbo engine, but with 190 kW (258 PS / 255 HP) and 400 Nm (295 lb-ft) of torque. Mid-size Bavarian cabriolet to sit $19K upstream of equivalent coupe variants
BMW Australia has announced pricing and specs for its first mid-size cabriolet in almost 20 years, with the 2021 BMW 4 Series Convertible arriving in the first quarter priced from $89,900 plus on-road costs.
The three-variant soft-top line-up mirrors the new BMW 4 Series Coupe that is now entering showrooms, and each attracts a $19,000 increment over the equivalent hard-roofed model.
That sees the rear-wheel drive BMW 420i Convertible open proceedings at $89,900 plus ORCs, followed by the 430i Convertible at $107,900 plus ORCs and the all-wheel drive M440i xDrive Convertible topping the launch range at $135,900 plus ORCs.
