America s Most Innovative University Hires Music Teacher Who Mixes in Critical Race Theory

Perhaps it’s Critical Race Theory. If that sounds right, this’ll be music to your ears. Arizona State University’s ASU News rings in a rhythm ‘n’ race combo courtesy of Joyce McCall, “assistant professor of music learning and teaching.” “Critical Race Theory Scholar,” the outlet announces, “Joins ASU School of Music, Dance and Theatre.” Joyce is one of a mere few: McCall is one of the few scholars whose music education research focuses on race and racism through Critical Race Theory and Double Consciousness Theory, as well as culturally relevant pedagogy. And what is CRT? Consider Texas’s classroom ban of the doctrine, which prohibits all of the below from being taught:

Social justice warrior at Arizona State University insists students of color shouldn t have to be able to write in order to get good grades

Arizona State University (ASU) has written a book that calls on schools to “destroy grading.” Grading students’ work, especially in the area of writing, is a form of “white supremacy” that must be abolished in order for black students to “achieve” at the same level as white students. Asao Inoue, who works as associate dean for Academic Affairs, Equity, and Inclusion within the College of Integrative Sciences and Arts, contends that merit should not be a consideration when dealing with black students’ academic performance. “Anti-racism,” he says, simply does not allow for it. In his book Labor-Based Grading Contracts: Building Equity and Inclusion in the Compassionate Writing Classroom, Inoue attempts to make the case that a student’s efforts, rather than actual performance, are what should be graded.
