Columbia Public Works and Boone County Road and Bridge will have crews plowing overnight Tuesday and into Wednesday. Greg Edington with Boone County Road and Bridge said the snow starting to melt Tuesday during the day will help crews clear the roads. I think once we get pile all the slush off the roads we ll be in pretty good shape for tonight, Edington said. He said crews put down salt during the day Tuesday to help break up the packed snow which helped.

Crews are plowing roads, but because the area has seen so much snowfall and the extreme cold temperatures, it is more difficult to clear them. A 27-person crew with the city reported in at 7 p.m. to clear roads. Ashlyn Sherman with Columbia Public Works said crews are focusing on priority routes until crews get down to the pavement. Once that happens we ll be able to put some treatment on the roads, she said.

Road crews continue to treat road conditions as snow moves through Mid-Missouri ABC 17 News COLUMBIA, MO (KMIZ) MoDOT s crews have been out all day Saturday pretreating and treating roads throughout the winter weather event. Jason Shafer, the District Maintenance Engineer for MoDot, said the department s main concern is ensuring enough treatment is applied to roads as they fight the low temperatures. Once temperatures get below the low 20 s the salt crews put down on roads can become ineffective. Shafer says it s important crews get as much treatment onto roads in a short amount of time as possible. Jefferson City Public Works sent out road crews earlier this afternoon. Britt Smith, Operations Division Director for Jefferson City Public Works, says supervisors will be on call throughout the night and crews will continue to treat roads and monitor slick areas.
