As much as 13,520 MW of electricity was produced around 9pm Sunday, Saiful Hasan Chowdhury, director (public relations) of Power Development Board told bdnews24.com.
The previous highest production of power was 13,380 MW generated on Apr 15.
According to a PDB official, over 13,000 MW of electricity has been generated in the last few days due to the increase in demand for electricity and a rise in the number of consumers.
As a result, cost of most of the projects aimed at improving railways services is likely to escalate, prolonging people s wait for better services from the struggling railway.
Officials of the state-owned transport agency blamed it on delays in land acquisition and approval of foreign loans, lack of necessary manpower, and lately the Covid-19 global pandemic.
Experts, however, found poor planning owing to weak feasibility studies, lack of accountability and skilled manpower, and vested interests, as the reasons behind slow progress of railway projects.
After decades of neglect, the railway started getting increased allocations when the Awami League-led alliance assumed power in 2009.

DHAKA, April 10, 2021 (BSS) – Fisheries and Livestock Minister SM Rezaul Karim today said that the failure to protect Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in independent Bangladesh has led to the rise of communal evil forces in the country.
The minister made the remark while addressing a webinar titled ‘Opposition to the Declaration of Independence, a Crime Equivalent to Sedition (Swadhinatar Ghoshonapottrer Birodhita, Rashtrodrohita tullo Oporadh) ‘ from his official residence on Baily Road in the capital.
“The governments that have been in power for 26 years outside the Awami League-led government continue to make heinous attempts to highlight the contribution of Zia by downplaying Bangabandhu’s fame,” he said.
