A store in Hamilton has been robbed by a group of men. Emergency services were called to the robbery on Avalon Drive about 7.10am on Thursday, a police spokeswoman said. Two or three men entered the store and stole a number of items before leaving in a vehicle. No weapons were reported, but one person was hit. However, they were not injured and an ambulance was not required. Enquiries are ongoing to locate the men.

Meanwhile, rainy and windy weather downed two trees on the outskirts of Hamilton. A tree fell on a passing car in Puketaha Road about 11.40am, Simpson said. No-one was injured but the road was blocked. A second tree was downed on the southern side of Hamilton, in Tamahere, shortly before noon. The tree fell across Cambridge Road and was hit by a car, Fire and Emergency northern communications shift manager Craig Dally said. One person had minor injuries as a result. Overall, Waikato firefighters had received about five weather-related calls, Dally said.
