The New Development Bank (NDB) approved a $1 billion COVID-19 Emergency Program Loan to the Government of the Republic of South Africa for supporting South Africa’s economic recovery from COVID-19.
The Loan will support the Government of South Africa in its efforts to contain the economic fallout of the pandemic and start economic recovery. The Loan will finance creation of employment opportunities in South Africa, in particular the first phase of the Presidential Employment Stimulus (PES) aimed to create and support about 700,000 job opportunities in the public sector, together with social protection measures for active labor market participants that temporarily lost their jobs, in order to help them remain in the labor market.

NDB Board of Directors Held 29th Meeting in Virtual Format, Approved Seven Projects
SHANGHAI, Dec. 17, 2020 /PRNewswire/ The Board of Directors (Board) of the New Development Bank (NDB) held its 29th Meeting in a virtual format on December 15, 2020.
At the Meeting, the Board approved five investment projects with a total commitment aggregating to approx. USD 2.7 billion.

The NDB Board approved a loan of USD 1.2 billion to the Brazilian Development Bank (BNDES) for the BNDES-NDB Sustainable Infrastructure Project. The BRICS New Development Bank has approved a Covid-19 Emergency Programme Loan worth $1 billion to India for seven approved projects.
The Board of Directors of the BRICS New Development Bank (NDB) approved five investment projects in India during its 29th meeting in a virtual format on December 15. Two projects were approved earlier taking the total number of investment projects to seven in India.
