The EBB and ECF were established under the two most recent federal COVID-19 relief packages and aim to provide new technology and broadband internet access to low-income households and libraries and schools in rural or low-income areas. The COVID-19 pandemic further exacerbated the digital divide impacting counties across the nation, with rural and low-income students in particular facing barriers to remote learning. Thinkstock The Federal Communication Commission has launched a program that gives a stipend of $50 or more to qualifying households toward their internet bill, aimed at helping offsetting the cost of high-speed internet service during the ongoing pandemic. The $3.2 billion emergency program is part of the $900 billion pandemic relief package passed back in December.  Work, education, healthcare, and more have all migrated online, Acting FCC Chairwoman Jessica Rosenworcel said in a statement. Ribbon cuttings held for brewery, candy shop GREAT BEND – The Great Bend Chamber of Commerce staff and Ambassador’s Club hosted Ribbon Cuttings at 1305 and 1403 Main Street to recognize two businesses. The first was for the opening of Dry Lake Brewing. Named after Lake Barton, Dry Lake is the first brewery ever in Great Bend and is locally owned. Kevin Burkey and Ryan Fairchild opened the business on May 6 with seven employees. Currently, the brewery is open from 3 to 10 p.m. Thursdays and 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturdays.
